Challenges & Opportunities of Energy Sector in Pakistan

As a part of this initiative, PEF organized an event titled, ‘Pakistan’s Energy Crisis and Its Solutions’. The objective was to provide the Pakistan engineering community in Qatar with awareness of the current energy situation in Pakistan and also identify possible solutions to the crisis that could help the country come out of this situation. The program was opened with the recitation of the Holy Quran and a welcome note. PEF President Asfandiar Ansari formally opened the program by introducing PEF to the members and guests. PEF is the oldest professional Pakistani organization in Qatar and has been hosting programs for the community while allowing for development and networking opportunity for members. Mr. Sohail Wajahat Siddiqui, former Federal Minister for Petroleum & Natural Resources and former CEO & MD Siemens Pakistan, Cluster CEO West Asia Siemens graced the occasion and spoke on ‘Opportunities in Energy Sector in Pakistan’. Mr. Sohail Wajahat Siddiqui initiated the talk and discussed the current energy mix and the issues around it. While describing about a number of energy sources, and provided solutions, their economics and its financial implications. He recommended handling the issues internally by assigning dedicated teams of industry experts and by improving coordination between players in the Energy sector. The Government has to do its policy making function effectively while creating the environment to favor investment, productivity & value-addition. The second presenter is a renowned energy expert, Mr. Hasan Mobin Qureshi, who did his M.S. in Energy Management from NYIT, New York. He is also a Certified Energy Manager (CEM) from NY State. Mr Qureshi has done several presentations and talks in the past and many of these are available on the internet. The program moderator was Rehan Ansari, GS PEF. He thanked the sponsors and introduced them as they were handed souvenirs. In the end, PEF Vice President, Muhammad Riaz said “the excitement and support for this event is inspiring, and we couldn’t be more pleased with how many delegates have come together to make it a successful event.” He thanked PEF EXCOM members for a great show of teamwork. The success of this event illustrates just how many professionals understand the importance of achieving excellence through continued education and achieving recognized certifications in the area of their expertise – a good sign for the professional community.
